Timber Kitchen Island with Kamado Grill
A small timber kitchen island housing a kamado grill stands on concrete pavers before a flat roof house featuring breeze block walls, curved stone dining benches, and potted citrus trees.
Design notes
Mid-century outdoor kitchens are low, linear and flush with the house. Look for a single long counter of concrete or terrazzo, teak or slatted cabinet fronts, a flat roof or beam overhang for shade, a breeze-block backdrop and bar stools in bent steel. Keep everything on one line and let the pool and lawn beyond be the view.
What to look for
- The work triangle — grill, sink and fridge within a few steps
- Ventilation: a hood, an open gable or clear sky above the grill
- Where guests sit relative to the cook
