Covered Timber Kitchen Beside Brick Estate
Beside a colonial Georgian brick house with black shutters and boxwood hedges, a covered timber pavilion features a stone island with bar seating, flagstone paving, and a stainless steel grill.
Design notes
Colonial outdoor kitchens are symmetrical and quiet. Look for a brick or white-painted island on the house's axis, bluestone counters and floors, a pavilion with columns and a hipped or gabled roof, black lanterns and stainless kept to a minimum. Boxwood hedges frame the space, and the dining table sits in line with the back door.
What to look for
- The work triangle — grill, sink and fridge within a few steps
- Ventilation: a hood, an open gable or clear sky above the grill
- Where guests sit relative to the cook
