Outdoor Kitchen Island with Kamado Grill
Outside a coastal cedar shingle beach house, this small wood-clad island on a weathered timber deck features a green kamado grill, stainless steel cabinetry, and stone counters surrounded by wild dune grass.
Design notes
Coastal outdoor kitchens are bright and salt-tolerant. Look for white-painted brick or shingle bases, marine-grade cabinets in white or driftwood grey, quartzite or porcelain counters, a sea-glass tile backsplash and stainless appliances that shrug off the air. A pergola with a canvas canopy and wicker stools finish the look.
What to look for
- The work triangle — grill, sink and fridge within a few steps
- Ventilation: a hood, an open gable or clear sky above the grill
- Where guests sit relative to the cook
