Design notes
Classic design favours balance and proportion. Look for symmetry from the back door, traditional materials — stone, brick, terracotta, painted timber — furnishings that belong to the house rather than the season, and planting with structure: hedges, borders and trees placed to frame the view.
What to look for
- Height, and whether the top is capped or open
- Which side faces out and how posts are spaced
- Planting on both sides so the fence reads as a hedge line
