No. 30 Fences & Gates · Mountain & Cabin
Metal Driveway Gate Between Stone Pillars
A black metal driveway gate hangs between stacked stone pillars topped with lanterns, opening onto a gravel driveway that leads to a timber and stone mountain lodge surrounded by pine trees.
Design notes
Mountain and cabin design lets the landscape lead. Look for heavy timber and log, stacked stone and boulders, steel and dark stains that recede against the trees, and decks and terraces that reach toward the view. Fire is central — a stone fireplace, a fire pit ringed with Adirondack chairs — and hot tubs earn their place. Planting is pines, aspens, grasses and wildflowers; paving is flagstone and gravel that can take the snow.
What to look for
- Height, and whether the top is capped or open
- Which side faces out and how posts are spaced
- Planting on both sides so the fence reads as a hedge line
