Victorian Lap Pool with Patterned Tile
Beside a green Victorian residence with gingerbread trim and wrought iron railings, a rectangular lap pool is framed by brick paving, an inlay of patterned tile, and borders of hydrangeas and hostas.
Design notes
Victorian pools are rare in period photographs, so the best modern versions borrow the era's ornament: a wrought-iron fence and gates, patterned tile borders, urns on pedestals, a gazebo or glasshouse pool room, and planting of roses, ferns and hydrangeas. Keep the pool shape classic and let the ironwork and tile carry the style.
What to look for
- The coping — how the deck meets the water sets the whole tone
- Where the spa sits and how it spills into the pool
- Night lighting: which features glow and which stay dark
