Design notes
Rustic pools borrow from the landscape. Boulders form the waterfall, flagstone makes up the deck, and planting is allowed to spill over the edges so the water reads as a natural feature rather than a built one. The best examples still keep a clear plan underneath the texture, with seating, circulation and lighting placed as deliberately as any modern design.
What to look for
- The coping — how the deck meets the water sets the whole tone
- Where the spa sits and how it spills into the pool
- Night lighting: which features glow and which stay dark
