At night, metal bollards and path lights illuminate a gravel walkway beside square stone pavers, low shrubs, and a mature live oak with tree lighting and moonlighting outside a modern stucco home.
Design notes
Modern design is about restraint: clean geometry, a tight material palette and details that disappear into the architecture. Look for long straight edges, large-format paving, flush transitions between inside and out, and planting kept architectural — hedges, grasses and one or two specimen trees.
What to look for
- Layers: one overhead, one at eye level, one low along the ground
- Whether you can see the fixture or only the light
- Colour temperature — everything warm, nothing blue
