No. 27 Outdoor Lighting · Mid-Century Modern

Brick Façade Entry with Glowing Lanterns

At night, glowing wall lanterns and backlit house numbers illuminate the brick façade and front entry, while low landscape lights brighten the stone walkway, concrete steps, and spiky agave plantings.

Design notes

Mid-century modern design lines everything up with the house. Look for flat roofs and post-and-beam overhangs, walls of glass, breeze-block screens, terrazzo or large concrete pads with gravel joints, and a rectangular pool set square to the architecture. Planting is sculptural and sparse — agave, yucca, olive, citrus, a Mediterranean fan palm — and colour comes from a single accent: an orange door, turquoise water, a yellow umbrella.

What to look for

  • Layers: one overhead, one at eye level, one low along the ground
  • Whether you can see the fixture or only the light
  • Colour temperature — everything warm, nothing blue
