Design notes
Mediterranean outdoor kitchens live under arches and loggias. Look for stucco counters and columns, terracotta or travertine floors, blue-and-white tile backsplashes, a wood-fired oven built into the wall, and a long table under vines. Keep the palette warm and the appliances tucked behind stucco so the architecture, not the stainless, leads.
What to look for
- The work triangle — grill, sink and fridge within a few steps
- Ventilation: a hood, an open gable or clear sky above the grill
- Where guests sit relative to the cook
