Modern Chicken Coop Built with Black Timber
Free-ranging hens wander across pea gravel near a modern chicken coop constructed from black timber and corrugated metal, framed by corten steel raised planters and ornamental grasses under an overcast sky.
Design notes
Modern design is about restraint: clean geometry, a tight material palette and details that disappear into the architecture. Look for long straight edges, large-format paving, flush transitions between inside and out, and planting kept architectural — hedges, grasses and one or two specimen trees.
What to look for
- Path width and bed width — can you reach and can a wheelbarrow pass
- Where the water is and how far the kitchen door is
- Edges and structure that still look good in winter
